Iran: Two Volunteers and Activists Arrested By the Intelligence Services

An Ahwazi social activist Redha Kaabi, son of Hanash, have been arrested on 18 May 2016 by the intelligence services agents. He voluntarily handed himself in to the intelligence services a day after they raided his home and took his father and brother. The Arab social and cultural rights activist was critical of the local member of parliament and wrote some articles against the poverty and unemployment in the region.

Two days later, on 20 May 2016, fellow activist, Ali Jalali, 45-year-old father-of-two, from Koei Danyal, Shooshtar city, was also arrested.

Both men were transferred to unknown location and their fate remains unknown.

They were in recent weeks voluntarily helping and collecting donations for people affected by the recent catastrophic flood, which many Ahwazis, including famers, believe the government was complicit and it had deliberately flooded the region in order to drive the Ahwazi Arab inhabitants out of their lands.
